Company and Club Updates from Monthly Meeting

A union’s strength lies in its ability to remain independent, sceptical, and focused on its members’ interests.

Nothing new and still talking about 2026

SAFE in Noble Club Membership Growth
The club has seen remarkable growth in recent months, effectively doubling in size. This expansion highlights the positive direction we are taking, reinforcing our belief that by working quietly and professionally, more individuals will continue to join the SAFE family.

Tariff Negotiations
Steinar Skarsvåg is attending negotiations on tariff-related matters in OSLO this week, ensuring that our members’ interests are well represented.

CCTV Surveillance on Rigs
During discussions with the company, we received assurances that CCTV systems on the rigs will not be used for employee surveillance. While safety-related observations should be addressed, CCTV should not serve as evidence in disciplinary proceedings. It is crucial that crew members feel comfortable performing their daily tasks without feeling monitored.

Disciplinary Procedures
Employees should always have representation when called into meetings, ideally a union representative. We emphasized to the company that no meeting is so urgent that an employee cannot wait for proper representation. Furthermore, employees should be explicitly informed when a meeting could lead to disciplinary action, as this is not always made clear.

Ex Maintenance Concerns
Ex maintenance is a critical aspect of rig maintenance, and we strongly advocate against outsourcing this work to third-party contractors. At the very least, electricians performing this work should receive equal pay to our in-house electricians. This issue has been raised with the company, and we intend to bring it forward to the AMU.

Health & Welfare Initiatives
We continue to push the company on health and welfare matters. As a result, they are launching a trial for a new preventive health campaign. Participation will be voluntary, but we strongly encourage all members to take part and benefit from this initiative.

Travelling to and from Work or Courses: Know Your Insurance and Healthcare Coverage

When traveling for work or attending courses, it’s crucial to understand your coverage for both insurance and healthcare.

Travel Insurance Coverage

Currently, we do not have travel insurance for work-related travel. The company advises employees to claim through airlines for lost luggage. When attending courses, if personal items are stolen or damaged, the company will assess cases individually based on circumstances. However, we strongly believe that all work-related travel should be covered by insurance and will continue building a case for this throughout the year.

Emergency Medical Support

Employees are covered under the Noble SOS scheme, ensuring assistance in emergency situations. Details will be sent to members on how to sign up.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

If you pay tax and social security contributions in Norway, you are covered by the Norwegian healthcare system and should apply for a Norwegian EHIC through Helfo (the Norwegian Health Economics Administration). This card provides access to necessary healthcare while traveling within the EU/EEA and Switzerland.

For those living in the UK but paying tax in Norway, it’s important to note that the UK’s Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) does not apply to you. Instead, you should use the Norwegian EHIC, as your healthcare rights are tied to Norway.

We encourage all employees to stay informed about their rights and ensure they have the necessary coverage when traveling for work or training.
